MOFILM reached out to us with a unique request: they needed aerial footage and still photography of a Princess Cruises ship docked in Monterey Bay, California. The challenge? The bay’s proximity to Monterey Airport meant we couldn’t fly our cinemas drone. So, we quickly pivoted to plan B: a helicopter shoot. We called our friends at Specialized Aviation in Santa Cruz, and before long, we were airborne. With our gyrostabilizer and ARRI Alexa ready to roll, we set off toward the bay. As we approached, the marine layer was still creeping over the distant mountains—perfect conditions for capturing the beauty of the scene. In constant communication with the ship’s captain, we made multiple passes, capturing stunning aerial shots. The footage and photos were later featured in Princess Cruises' California coastal marketing materials, showcasing the beauty of the region from a truly unique perspective.
